Goalie Development

CYHA will be utilizing MEGA again for goaltender development.

One on One Coaching:
The Bantams, Peewees, Squirts, U15, U12, and U10 teams will have dedicated one on one time with a MEGA instructor. The minimum amount of sessions a team will receive will be 4.  The MEGA instructors will schedule these based off of your CYHA schedule and will reach out to head coaches when they plan to attend your practice.

Goalie Center:

All full time goalies on Mite A, Squirt/U10, PeeWee/U12, Bantam/U15  will have 4 sessions in the Goalie Center at MAP/FHIT.  The Peewee/U12, and Bantam/U15 will attend while at the MAP/FHIT dryland trainings.  If you do not get those on your schedule, MEGA will reach out to the coaches to schedule these based off of your CYHA practice/game schedules. This is the synthetic ice area where they work on rebound control of the stick, glove, and blocker.

Dedicated Coach:
CYHA ensures that one coach, per team, is assigned as the Goalie Coach and manages the goalie(s) development throughout the season. This coach will be required to attend the MEGA goalie sessions with their goalie(s) to learn drills and methods in assisting with training, along with attending the Goalie Center Sessions for their goalie(s). The goal of this is two fold, one for the goalies to have a coach with them, that can take items away from the clinics and goalie center sessions to work with and assist the goalie during team practices.  The other is so that the coach can walk away having a better understanding of how to work with their goalie(s) and work with them in team practices, games, scrimmages, etc.

Goalie Clinics:
CYHA has 8 clinic dates over the course of the season.  Each clinic date will have 2 hours of ice. The first hour will be geared towards full time Mite A/U8A/Squirt/U10. The second hour will be dedicated to the Peewee/U12/Bantam/U15/Junior Gold goalies. The CYHA Ice Scheduler is aware of these dates, and will try to refrain from scheduling any games during these dates.

Mite/8U Introduction to Goalie Clinics:

Starting in 2022, MEGA will be run a minimum of 3 Mite/8U Introduction to Goalie Clinics. Anyone in the Centennial Mite or 8U program that is interested in trying goalie is invited to attend. Please note that equipment will not be available at the session. Please reach out to your head coach or goalie coach to coordinate the use of team goalie gear prior to the session. One coach from each team is encouraged to attend on ice with their player.
