Responses to the Feedback below from the 08-09 Tryout committee - Click Here

  • Schedules were posted and read left to right and it was suggested that was confusing.
  • Comments that not all paid evaluators seemed to be paying attention .
  • More time at B2 & C levels to make sure that players placed at correct skill level.
  • Suggestion for more ice time prior to tryouts (preseason skates).
  • Feedback needed at end of season to evaluate where your player’s skill level is at.
  • Questions regarding injury or missing tryouts policy – clarification if it is the same or different.
  • Comments on different amounts of C & B teams at Initiation level.
  • B2 Level tryouts needed more time for evaluation and more focus on getting skater at proper level.
  • Same jersey numbers on Phase 2 B1 pools caused confusion – wasted drill time.
  • Goalie evaluation did not measure skills and needs to be revised.
  • Questions on how teams are chosen for the A pool.
  • Girls 14U should declare positions.
  • Positive feedback on overall tryout process.
  • Feedback from evaluators so that players know what to try and improve on.

Feedback received at the 2006 Post Tryout Meeting for SQ/10U - Bantam (11 members present):

  • P2 A Scrimmages – suggestion made to sit the players that will automatically make the team.  Allows others more scrimmage time.
  • Positive comment that we added skills back into tryout for B SQ and B PW in Phase I
  • Jersey assignments should be assigned randomly – not alphabetically or by last year team assignment
  • More time between end of P2 and first practice
  • CYHA must have someone available to lead the team in a first practice
  • Girls – suggestion that P1 be 3 hrs for 12U and 14U
  • Girls – suggestions that P2 be 2 hours for 12U and 14U
  • When initial few weeks of ice is assigned, look at school calendar for events
  • Goalie Drills – suggestion made to update drills, add more variety
  • Goalie cuts should be made early just like player cuts in Phase I
  • Post tryout results on website at one time for all tryouts, so that they can be viewed at home with parent
  • Girls 14U should declare positions for tryouts
  • Develop pool of coaches that can get teams started while coaches are being placed
  • Drafting of B teams – consider player request in draft to allow for carpooling etc.
  • Revise B Bantam language:  take top 15/25 players in B1 Pool without regard to declared position
  • Add Drills to A Level tryouts for all groups
  • Don’t cut kids from A Level tryout on 1st night
  • Stretch the # of days of tryout over a longer period with days off in between.
  • Make final cuts on Friday and Saturday (No school next day)
  • Remove non parent coaches from A Level Phase I tryout
